Introduction to Gamer Ability Review System

I have been playing video games since I was a young boy, and have been continuing to play video games as an adult. Throughout these past 20 some years of video gaming, I have had many enjoyable moments playing games.   I can remember my first-time playing classics such as Metroid, The Legend of Zelda, Mario, Earthbound, Pokémon, and Donkey Kong, just to name a few.

Of course, I have played many other games and games have continued to change dramatically since that time.  But the one thing that my favorite games as a kid and into adulthood displayed was continuous enjoyment/fun feelings.   Not only were the games enjoyable after one playthrough, they kept their enjoyability factor when replaying them over and over again.  Even to the point in which I still have fun playing these classics to this day.

I know I only named a few of my favorite classic games, but I am continued to be blown away by amazing video games to this day.   Game developers and companies are continuing to push the envelope and are doing things I always dreamed of as a kid.

I believe the main factor on how many years a video game is played or remembered is the enjoyability level of a game.  Another word one could use instead of enjoyable is fun.  In the enjoyability section of my reviews, I am going to focus in on how fun a game is during the first playthrough.  I will seek to paint a picture of some of my favorite highlights of each game that are truly enjoyable.  On the other hand, I will also highlight the moments in playing the game that were unfun or monotonous. And Make a conclusion on whether the game was more enjoyable or not enjoyable and provide a numerical score.

The reason I was able to play games such as Mario, The Legend of Zelda, and Metroid over and over again is because there enjoyability factory was so high not only with the first playthrough, but with each subsequent playthrough.   This leads me to my next review category of replayability. At a glance, the first question I will answer as a reviewer is: Do I want to play this game again through a second time?  If I was so bored playing the game the first time, the games replayability score will be subsequently low.  On another note, let’s say for instance I enjoyed the game enough to play through a second time.  In my second playthrough, is the games enjoyability enough to make the game replay able? Can I see my self playing the game multiple times or playing multiplayer matches over and over?

We live in an age, in which we love to watch things.  Not only do we like to watch TV shows and movies, but also video games.  I find myself watching content creators on live streams and YouTube videos all throughout the day.  The reason for this is twofold: for one I find many of my favorite content creators so entertaining, and two, I enjoy watching video games. Due to the popularity of watching video games today, I wanted to take a closer look at the watchability of games.  This will include:

a review of twitch numbers during launch week in morning and peak times.

My opinion of whether I enjoy watching a game.

My total review score will be the average score of the reviewed categories of enjoyability, replayability, and watchability.

As I know some game reviews will take longer to complete than others, you will sometimes see a review at a glance.  My review at a glance will basically be my review in progress, to give gamers something in place before they read the full review.

Over my many years playing games, I have read many gaming reviews.  My goal is to avoid getting caught up in the technical aspects of games that many reviews dive into, and focus on whether the game is fun or not.

One of the added perks of being a member of Gamer Ability, is if you are a member, you will be able to provide your own scores for each category and I will add these to the end of each review after a game has been out for one week.

Thank you for choosing to improve your Gamer Ability with me!
