Watch Dogs: Legion releases October 29, 2020

Watch Dogs: Legion is just a few days away and my goal is to help you learn more about all the features this game has to offer.  I have read and watched multiple trailers, previews, and official Ubisoft news articles on this game over the past year, and today I will provide you with all the knowledge I have gained to this date.  Let me know the features you are most excited about in the comment section below.

Game Overview

Ubisoft is going all in on their next installment in the Watch Dogs series. Watch Dogs: Legion is a third-person open-world action-adventure game developed by Ubisoft Toronto. The game is based on a fictionalized representation of London in the near future.

Join the hacker group DedSec in London, a massive urban open world, and work to build a resistance and take back the city from the authoritarian regime, Albion. This game takes character recruitment and design to the next level by allowing gamers to recruit and play as anyone in the world.  Yes, gamers can literally play as any character in the game world.  This game will give true freedom in playstyle and players will be able to tackle missions in stealth or go guns blazing style while utilizing their hacking skills to gain the advantage.  If you have always dreamed of building the ultimate spy team of retired elderly men or women, Watch Dogs: Legion makes this possible.

The game will launch on Thursday, October 29, 2020, for PS4, PC, Xbox One, and will be coming to next gen consoles when they launch. The game has an ESRB rating of Mature.

Will There Be Any Co-op or Multiplayer Available on Launch Day?

No, there will be no multiplayer modes on launch day. However, Ubisoft will be releasing many different multiplayer modes for Watch Dogs Legion on December 3, 2020, which will include cross progression between platforms with the all new Ubisoft Connect feature. The developers are working on cross-platform parties and multiplayer, but these features will be coming sometime after December 3. Since the Watch Dogs: Legion Online mode will not be launching till a month after the game releases, players will have plenty of time to beat the main story and master the gameplay mechanics.

When the online mode launches on December 3, it will include open world co-op , co-op missions, dynamic events, tactical ops, spider-bot arena PVP, the return of invasion PVP, and more modes and features coming in the future. The open world co-op will be a separate online sandbox from the main single-player story campaign. However, players will still be able to recruit and play as anyone. Up to 4-players will be able to join together to recruit and build the ultimate resistance to take back the city. Tactical Ops are 4-player raid-like missions that will require tactical planning and good team communication.

There will also be much more free content and updates coming to Watch Dogs: Legion Online beyond December 3, 2020. I am so excited to see all the content Ubisoft has planned for the online mode.

Watch Dogs Legion Online Features Planned for December

Play As Anyone Feature

In Watch Dogs: Legion, gamers will literally be able to recruit and play as any character they see walking around in the open world. This feature has been hard for me to grasp, but I am so excited to see this system in action. There are millions and millions of APC’s (All Playable Characters) walking around London, and you can recruit them all. On top of this, they each have their unique job and role in the city. This can range from construction worker, beekeeper, assassin, spy, retired spy, and many others. All APCs will go about their normal routine and perform their regular work duties and social interactions until recruited and taken over by you.

Each character in London will have their unique profile that players can view by using their hacking skills. If players find a character they want to recruit, they can approach them to start the recruitment process. Gamers will need to make sure they look closely at each characters profile, because some characters in the game world can be prone to spontaneous death (This can happen at any time, even during a mission). It will not be as simple as just clicking recruit, players will have to complete a specific recruiting mission in order to complete the recruitment process. I am interested to see how many different varieties of recruitment missions will be available. I am hoping to see a vast variety of these missions so it does not get repetitive, but we will not find this out until the game launches.

The game has numerous amounts of character types to choose from. These include characters such as Anarchist, Barrister, Beekeeper, Getaway Driver, Football Hooligan, and Spy to name a few. There will be many other character types in the game as well.

Each recruited character type will have different abilities, equipment, and weapons. One of the characters I am most excited about is the Beekeeper. These characters can be found tending to their mechanical bee hives around parks or gardens in London. Their Bee Swarm ability can target up to 3-enemies with a swarm of robotic bees. The beekeepers unique weapon is the Overcharger. This weapon causes the bee swarms to explode knocking out enemies with a non-lethal blow. This character also wears an anti-shock suit to provide shock immunity in any situation. If you are scared of getting struck by lightning while walking around in London, this is the character for you.

This is the feature I am looking forward to the most, and I am looking forward to building the ultimate dream team.

Permadeath Mode is Optionable

The game features a permadeath mode setting that can be turned on or off by all players. With Permadeath mode toggled on, as you would expect if your character dies that character is gone from that specific game save forever. If you lose all your characters, this means game over when permadeath mode is turned on. If permadeath mode is turned off, once you reach the critical injury state your player will either be taken to the hospital or jail depending on the situation. In these cases, that character will be unable to be used for a certain amount of in-game time. Pay close attention to recruit certain characters that can help you get characters out of jail sooner or help injured players recover quicker.

Weapons and Equipment Arsenal

Another innovative feature in Watch Dogs: Legion, is the way you build your arsenal and loadouts. Instead of the typical approach of building an Arsenal buying more equipment and weapons, players will gain more weapons and gear through character recruiting. Each specific character has unique weapons and equipment, and when recruited their weapons will be added to your arsenal and can be used by any of your characters.

The game offers many different lethal and non-lethal weapon and equipment options for players to choose from. It is possible for players to play the entire game using only non-lethal weapons and melee attacks.

Hack Almost Anything

Players will have the option to hack almost any electronic in the game world. This can range from traffic lights, cameras, vehicles, doors, robots, drones, and so much more. The hacker character class will have even more options for hacking at their disposal. Gamers can even hack drones and use them to fly around to navigate London.

You can use hacking in multiple ways, including but not limited to infiltration, setting traps, combat, exfiltration, evading, and much more. Players who have never experienced the hacking options in the Watch Dogs series are in for a treat when they play Watch Dogs Legion.

Post Launch Content Plan

Ubisoft has released their post-launch content plan for Watch Dogs: Legion. This will include new single player content and the anticipated Watch Dogs: Legion Online Mode. The game has a season pass available, and fans of the previous games in the series will be excited for the first downloadable content (DLC) in the season pass.

Watch Dogs: Legion Season Pass and Post- Launch Content Overview

The first DLC releasing for season pass owners will be Watch Dogs: Legion Bloodline, and will continue the story of Aiden Pearce from the original Watch Dogs game. Bloodline will also feature Wrench (a fan favorite from Watch Dogs 2). Players will also unlock the character Mina as a playable character in Bloodlines, and her abilities are very unique. Mina is a subject of transhuman experiments and she possesses the ability to mind control other individuals. This DLC will also feature a crossover with the Assassins creed universe. Players will be able to play as Darcy, a member of the Assassin’s Brotherhood. There will also be more content included in the season pass as well. Watch the video above for Ubisoft’s full post-launch content plan.
